The Problem

Decreasing Population

Decreasing Population

Since hitting a peak of over 128 million people in 2010, Japan's population has continued to decline due to the decreasing birthrate. At the same time, the increasingly aging population and very restricted immigration are creating a labor shortage. By 2060, demographers are predicting a plunge in the population by a third, resulting in only about 80 million people. On average, this is a net loss of 1 million people a year. With more than 33% of the present population in Japan being over 65 years of age, the need for skilled labour continues to grow.

Labour Shortages

Labour Shortages

Due to population challenges, one of the main problems facing Japanese companies of all sizes is securing both general and skilled labour. Finding the right people can be a difficult task in any economy and especially difficult when recruiting from a shrinking labour pool. The need to think outside the box and recruit from the International Workforce is becoming more and more relevant. We can see this happening every day with general labourers, however, to survive into the future, hiring skilled workers from the International Workforce is a must.

Shrinking Domestic Demand

Shrinking Domestic Demand

A recent Reuters poll found that the biggest worry over the next coming years for Japanese firms is the shrinking domestic market and demand for their products and services. Even though the economy is expanding due to overseas demand, as the population continues to decline, the Domestic Market continues to shrink. Therefore, in order for Japanese firms to grow and survive, it is becoming more and more necessary to utilize the multi-skilled International Workforce, hire Global Labour and expand into Global Markets, both in and out of Japan.
